FINNISH JET OPEN 2008
Why Finnish Jet Open?
In Finland we do not have that many scale jet modellers, but we wanted to run a competition with IJMC F4J manouvers and rules.
To be able to get as many of the Finnish jets to take part we decided to run the competition without static judging and allow pilots to use sport jets, thus giving a possibility for less experienced modellers to partissipate and fly a full JWM routine in front of judges.
To be able to still have the "realism of flight" item in the judging, we had to define some easy categories and rules to be able to judge it.
Also we will run this event to work as a practise for some events to come. The organization crew will have much better idea of the flow of jet competitions after this event. We have set some targets for the future years to grow out from the Finnish Jet Open and we would like to run Scandinavian Jet Open in 2009. This would be scale jet event with full F4J rules. Also from FJO we will gain information for 2010 when we have a possibility to run the 2nd IJMC Jet Formation World Cup in Jämi.
Main Items of the Competition:
- Open for all fixed wing jets
- No static judging
- The span of the model is used to calculate the scale speed for realism of flight judging
- The plane will represent the flight of one of the categories:
- High Power to Weight (e.g. Modern military)
- Low Power To Weight (e.g. Trainers and old military)
- Commercial planes (non aerobatic)
- Three rounds of flying with IJMC F4J flight rules
The Judges
We will have 5 judges for the flight judging. Three of them are modellers and two are full size jet pilots. One of the judges regularly judges national F4A competitions.
The location
Jämijärvi is located about 1 hour drive by car from Tampere city in southwest part of Finland. We have one runway dedicated to your event and the direction of the runway gives us optimum situation to the sun. The sun will be behind our backs for the whole day.
